1. Excavation
Let’s dig in — literally.
We roll in with a trackhoe and carefully dig out the shape of your new custom concrete pool, based on your approved design plans. Before we start, we make sure we’ve got the green light on the pool’s location, elevation, and the access path for heavy equipment.
Heads up:
While we do everything we can to minimize disruption, excavation is messy business. Grass, concrete paths, sprinklers, and anything else in the machine’s way could get squished or damaged. (It’s just the nature of the beast.)
We always recommend clearing out trees, bushes, AC units, or anything you really care about before we fire up the machinery.
🔔 Note: CPC Pools isn’t responsible for underground lines, irrigation, or anything that might get caught up along the access path. Better safe than sorry — double-check your yard layout!
2. Steel & Plumbing Short Stub
Now it’s time to give your pool some bones.
Our Steel Crew steps in and bends rebar into a tough-as-nails steel cage that mirrors the shape of your pool — from the floors and walls to any benches, spas, or skimmers you’ve got planned.
Right after that, we’ll install the skimmers, main drains, and return lines, and if you’re adding a spa (nice choice!), we’ll rough in the spa jets and air lines too.
🔔 Note: Steps don’t need rebar — they’re expertly sculpted later during the gunite phase with a little concrete magic and some serious trowel skills.
3. Steel Bonding Inspection
Once the steel cage is locked and loaded, it’s inspection time.
We’ll schedule the bonding inspection with your local municipality to make sure everything is tight, secure, and up to code before we move on to the fun stuff.
4. Gunite
Here’s where the magic really starts to happen.
Gunite is a high-velocity concrete application method where we shoot a dry sand-and-cement mix through a hose and add water right at the nozzle.
The result? A crazy-strong, super-durable pool shell that’s made to stand the test of time (and cannonballs). At CPC Pools, we only trust the best nozzlemen in the business — these guys are pros at getting the water-to-mix ratio just right, so your concrete goes down smooth, strong, and void-free.
During this phase: We’ll need access to water on-site for our gunite rigs.
The surface will look rough when we’re done — that’s on purpose! It gives your plaster finish the perfect surface to bond to later.
👉 Whether you’re building a cocktail pool, a plunge pool, or a splash-sized backyard paradise, this gunite stage is what turns your blueprint into a living, breathing pool shell.
5. Plumbing, Gas & Electric Rough-In
Now that your pool shell is strong enough to survive a Texas stampede, it’s time to get the lifelines in place.
Here’s what’s happening: Plumbing lines for your pool jets, returns, and waterfalls (if you’re going fancy) are roughed in.
Gas lines are run for heaters or fire features. Electrical conduits are laid for lights, pumps, and automation systems.
💡Why it matters: No plumbing or electric = no lights, no heat, no fun. This step turns your future pool from a pretty hole into a fully-powered backyard dream.
6. Pre-Grade & Deck Bonding Inspection
Before we start decking things out, we clean up and level the dirt around your new pool shell.
This makes sure your future deck sits flat and proud, not wonky and weird.
At the same time, another inspector drops by to double-check that all the metal around the pool is still safely bonded.
🏡 Think of it like: Prepping the stage before the big rock concert — smooth, tight, and ready for action.
7. Tile Installation
Now it’s time for your pool to start flexin’.
We install a row of stylish waterline tile right where your pool’s water will meet the walls.
Sure, it looks awesome — but it also protects the plaster from sun damage, scum, and water chemistry.
🎨 Tile styles include: Classy glass mosaics, Rugged natural stone, Bold, bright Americana ceramics
💬 Fun fact:
Picking the right tile color can completely change the vibe of your water — from beachy blue to deep mountain lake.
8. Coping Installation
Coping is the trim around the edge of your pool, and trust us — it’s more important than you think.
This is where your pool shell transitions into your deck, and where you'll sit, swing your legs, or lean back and sip lemonade.
🪵 Coping options: Travertine (fancy but not fussy)Natural stone (earthy and bold)Concrete (classic and tough)
🎯 Why it matters: Good coping isn't just for looks — it’s built for comfort, safety, and serious backyard style points.
